Chapter Seven

“The body was dropped a mile from the station, in the middle of the damn highway. I thought you said you took care of this?” Agent Brag snapped and ran his hand through his hair.

“I should have said something last night, but I was so tired and couldn’t believe what happened I totally forget. Stupid.” Cheyenne shook her head and glanced at him. “There are three others. They are the most dangerous, and they will not stop to get at my daughter. They do not care who they kill and they will let no one stand in their way. I almost think they have others helping them, other than the group that you took care of last night, but I haven’t seen or heard anything to confirm it. They kept me locked up, for their… the only time those three joined the group was to feed off me and well, you know.”

He reached over and squeezed her shoulder, his gaze met Emily’s. “Are you going to be okay with the ceremony tonight? I want the ceremony done tonight. I don’t want to wait.”

She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. Her gaze flicked to his crotch. “That hard, and you can’t wait?” Everyone in the room laughed and she nodded. “It’s not my ideal situation, but I’ll handle it. I know we need to talk about it, but if there is no family for the children, I’d like them here with us. If that is okay with you? It’s my fault their mom is dead.” She glanced down at her lap, tears rolled down her cheek.

“We’ll bring them here and protect them. The shopping will have to wait.” Baas lifted her up off her seat and took her place with her in his lap.

“We’ll find the kids.” Sam came back into the room, followed by three of his guards.

“We have three dead men, and the last two are barely alive. We have a search going on, but there is hope. Your snowmobile is missing. We’re tracking it now.” Sam slammed his fist against the wall.

“Do you want me to notify the men’s families?” Sam asked as he looked down to see Emily’s hand on his arm. She took his hand and wrapped a dish towel around it.

“I should do it; it’s my fault they’re dead.” Her voice was just a whisper.

“No. You did nothing wrong, these men would have just picked someone else out.” Sam leaned down and kissed her lips. “I want you to stay in this house ’til the ceremony tonight.”

“I heard you were having trouble. I hope you don’t mind some extra help,” his friend Jaeger said stepping into the kitchen.

“You made good time my friend. Maybe you’ll be able to help catch the last three.” He walked over to Jaeger and then Mitchel his hand held out, but not before he gently eased Emily to his side.

He slid his arm around her. “Emily, this is Mitchel and Jaeger. They’ll be taking care of your mom.”

Emily lifted her hand and each of his friends kissed her palm.
